Kenny’s BBQ Belly Pork
Made with British farmed pork, these Belly Pork Pieces are the perfect combination of tender and juicy meat, a crispy smoked BBQ exterior, and aromatic spices. In a modern twist, we’ve served these is with a dry dip of aromatic spices, dried chilli, and ground herbs.
Pork is the most popular meat in Chinese restaurants and is often seen as a luxury both through history and in the modern-day. It’s no surprise then, that BBQ pork is one of the stars of Hong Kong Street Food. Belly Pork is perfect for this recipe - the meat is tender and juicy, while the outside crisps evenly when cooked on the BBQ.
Little Wishes Wonton Soup
K.Style Soups are back for a limited time only, and this one is better than ever. Based on a family recipe, these melt-in-the-mouth Wontons are a must-try. With juicy chicken breast in a fried wrapper, they absorb the rich notes of an umami broth all served on a bed of fresh Chinese leaf.
No good Hong Kong street market is complete with the savoury aroma of a simmering broth and the trays of delicately folded dumplings. The Master Chefs of Hong Kong have perfected the art of Dim Sum over centuries, and our Chef Kenny hopes to have captured a little of that excellence in these dumplings.
Street food in Hong Kong is a big part of local food culture - many of its residents have fond memories of browsing the bustling markets for their breakfast lunch and dinner. In Hong Kong, it’s true the city never sleeps, and a late-night trip to the bar often accompanies some BBQ meats or Curried Fish Balls. For generations, families have been hawking their family recipes of Fish Balls, Stinky Tofu and hand-made Dumplings. These techniques and recipes are a part of what makes Chinese Takeaway Food in the UK so popular, as their chefs have years of experience making quick and flavourful dishes.
Even dating as far back as to the Tang Dynasty of Ancient China, Hong Kong has a rich history of Street Food. The Summers in Southeast Asia are known for their high temperatures, easily topping 30-40°C. Because of this, locals to the region would eat cool foods sold by street vendors and hawkers. Later, it became popular with workers who would lunch on classic dishes of filling Soups, bowls of steaming rice.
Fish of Fury
Kenny makes these Fish Cakes the traditional way, with a blend of classic seasonings that perfectly compliment the minced fish paste. They’re deep-fried till cooked through and juicy inside, then served with our homemade Sweet Chilli Lime dipping sauce.
With a long tradition of fishing, Hong Kong has always been a hub for good seafood. A popular way to eat the fish is to finely mince the meat and form it into Fish Balls or these Fish Cakes. Legends say that the recipe for Chinese Fish Cakes are over 4000 years old, and was taught to Emperor Shun by a local fisherman called Bo who believed them a remedy to poor appetites. Whether the stories are true or not, these are enough to make anyone’s mouth water.
Classic Char Siu Bao
Fluffy white buns, rising towers of steam, and the melt in the mouth sweetness of Chinese BBQ Pork. These Char Siu Bao are as classic as they get, with a filling of tender pork, cooked in BBQ seasoning and flavoured with soy sauce, ginger, and sesame. Steamed buns are an icon of Hong Kong Street Food, and we hope you think Head Chef Kenny has done them justice.
Steamed Buns have long been a highlight of Hong Kong cuisine for locals and tourists alike. These small white buns are steamed, rather than baked, and can be filled with a variety of moreish fillings. From Creamy Egg Custard to Chicken Curry, there are many favourites. The champion of the street stalls, however, is Chinese BBQ Pork, or Char Siu Bao. These Bao buns are popular in street markets because of their convenience - eat them with your hands like a hamburger and savour the steaming hot filling bursting with flavour.
These dishes will be available at K.Style Invergordon from February 2nd-13th, so we hope you join us in celebrating Chinese New Year 2021. Order them online or give us a call to get them for £5.80 each, or have yourself a Street Food Extravanganza and try them all for £20.
